June In Portland

In Health & Wellness, Sober Living by Tree House Recovery

The sun is finally coming out and so are the people of Portland. Summertime is full of amazing events you can participate in by yourself or with a group of sober friends. Early recovery memories are often rich with getting out, trying new things, and learning how to be comfortable enjoying life sober. Having a fun summer is impossible not to do when you’re living in Portland.

World Naked Bike Ride

If you aren’t catching the Outdoor Project’s Summer Solstice Block Party on June 23rd, something more exhibitionist may be in your liking. Leave it to a city like Portland to proudly participate in World Naked Bike Ride day. Hundreds, if not thousands, of bike riding Portland enthusiasts will gather at Cathedral Park to ride. Promoting sustainability and an oil-free world, the ride suggest biking to the meeting point. A bonus for the sober man- alcohol is prohibited from the meeting spot. Sometime around 9 p.m. you’ll start your ride around Portland. Recovery is all about putting yourself out there- this is definitely one way to do it.

Oregon Zoo Summer Concerts

From June to September, the Oregon Zoo just a few miles west of Portland offers an amazing deal. Buy a ticket to a concert, get into the zoo for free. The lineup is not to be believed for a concert series in a zoo. This is, after all, a zoo outside of Portland. This summer, you can catch acts like Belle & Sebastian, The Roots, The Psychedelic Furs, Punch Brothers, Andrew Bird, or for some higher culture, the Oregon Symphony.

Clackamas County Lavender Festival

Lavender is a friend to any man in sobriety. Known for its relaxing, soothing scent and power, this flower can be used in a multitude of ways, from food to essential oils to bath products to eye pillows. Oregon is a large producer of lavender, which contributes to Oregon’s laid back vibes. Each year in Oregon City, about 20 miles Southeast of Portland, you can catch the Clackamas County Lavender Festival. Find cool goods and crafts at vendors, enjoy live music, sip on lavender lemonade, eat lavender ice cream, and get relaxed wandering through fields of lavender.

Rugged Maniac 5K Obstacle Race is a 3-mile race with 25 obstacles of walls, slides, fire, and mud, plus bands and beer at Portland International Raceway.

Men who come to treatment at Tree House Recovery push their physical form to new heights. Often, we encourage men in our programs to participate in obstacle course races, like the Rugged Maniac 5K Obstacle Race taking place at the Portland International Raceway on June 30, 2018. Put your newfound physique to the test with slides, mud, obstacles, and even fire.
