As with any season in Portland, there are great hikes to go on near the city or a road trip away from the city. Some wildflowers might start blooming in March, but peak season will come in April. Make your camping reservations and plan your hikes ahead of time to beat the last minute crowd who will frenzy over nature’s yearly splendor. Back in the city, however, there are numerous events going on which help Portlanders celebrate the end of winter as they look forward to the beloved summertime.

March is an amazing time of year for Portland foodies, which is most people who live in Portland. Every year from March through April the owners of the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm open up their farm and invite the whole family to witness the beautiful blooming of tulip flowers. Events to plan for in April

From April 14-April 21 Pioneer Square in the heart of Portland will transform into a design central for Design Week. Drop in on lectures and classes about design or visit an event at a Portland design firm for an open house. Treat your visual senses to design from all creative walks in Portland including graphic design, fashion, architecture, interiors, and even illustration.

The Soul’d Out festival will get everybody grooving from April 18-22 coinciding with Design Week feast your eyes in addition to your ears as you listen to the best of soul performing live in Portland. Unlike other festivals, the Soul’d Out festival isn’t held in one place. Use this opportunity as a way to visit some of Portland’s most famous venues around the city, from the Crystal Ballroom to Holocene.

Of course any good Portlander looks forward to the celebration of Earth Day. From the Portland State campus to Sauvie Island, there are tons of ways for you to celebrate Planet Earth along with thousands of other Portlanders.
