How Much Exercise Do You Need Everyday?

In Health & Wellness, Sober Living by Tree House Recovery

It can seem as though men who are in really ridiculously good shape either hardly workout at all because they don’t have to, or, they are working out multiple times a day in order to stay that in shape. Professionals who are training at high levels for maximum results are going to have a much different workout schedule than someone who is working out at the minimum amount just maintain health and wellness. Numerous research studies, including a most recent one from McMaster University in Canada, had indicated that to be healthy and live a longer life, you need just 30 minutes of exercise a day. Some research has argued what kind of movement defines exercise and there have been varying opinions. This new study finds that 30 minutes of any kind of movement men might be engaging in, from making their bed to lifting weights, is exercise.

The researchers wanted to be realistic about the type of exercise people are doing during the day. Not everyone has the time in their day to spend at the gym, inspiring them to get exercise elsewhere. Trivial movements like walking or riding a bike to work, taking walks on lunch breaks, or gardening can all be considered forms of exercise.

According to Men’s Fitness, “…if everyone was active for at least 150 minutes per week, about 8% of early deaths of more than seven years could be averted.” Participants in the study who met the guidelines of 30 minutes of exercise a day “also lowered risk of heart disease by 20% and showed that 750 minutes of quick walking a week dropped all-cause early mortality by 36%.”
